Dinosaur Protection Group Wiki

Spinosaurus ("spined lizard") was a theropod dinosaur that existed in what is now North Africa during the Cretaceous period. Spinosaurus is the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs, even larger than Carcharodontosaurus, Giganotosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus rex.

Its most distinctive feature was the huge sail-like fin on its back. This sail was made from spines that come out of the top of the backbones of all dinosaurs and all other backboned animals. The spines of Spinosaurus were tremendous, with the longest one found was over 1.7 meters (5 feet) tall. The dinosaur may have used its sail to make itself look bigger. It is also possible that the sail might have been used to show off to attract a mate.

Description

Spinosaurus is a large theropod with a semicircle sail on it's back . It's arms are large and has a single claw that is twice as large as the others. The head is long and relatively thin, with two allosaur-like crests on the head. It's main coloration is grey, with red on the head and down the back, going over the top of the sail and down to the tail where it covers most of it. The sail is covered in barely visible blue circles. The underbelly is light grey.

Behavior

Spinosaurus has rarely been observed, and when it has it had been extremely territorial towards both humans and other large theropods. It may be solitary, although as no other Spinosaurus has been observed, this cannot be confirmed.

History

Only one Spinosaurus was known to have been cloned on Isla Sorna.

This individual later caused the 2001 incident on the island after Alan Grant and others came to the island in search of Ben Hildebran and Eric Kirby. It managed to kill both mercenaries Cooper and M.B. Mash while successfully taking down the plane the rescue group used to get on the island. It would encounter the group again soon after, where it was accidently lured into a Tyrannosaurus, which it dispatched after a quick fight. It would later be encountered near the Isla Sorna Aviary, but would only force the humans to run into the Aviary for shelter. It's final encounter in the incident would be in the river, where it would attack the rescue group one more time, destroying their boat and injuring Amanda Kirby before being distracted by Paul Kirby and being driven off by fire.

It is unknown what happened to the Spinosaurus after this incident.

Jurassic World

The skeleton was built on Main Street and soon destroyed by Tyrannosaurus Rex. It is also a Dinosaur on holoscape. It is unknown if Spinosaurus was ever actually a Jurassic World Attraction.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

By 2018, Spinosaurus were subject to cruelty on Isla Nublar but it is unknown if there were any surviving populations.

Inaccuracies

  • A recent study by Donald Henderson has concluded that Spinosaurus may not have been a swimming animal, although this is under debate.
  • The clones have 2 crests instead of just 1 crest.
  • In 2014 the reconstructed Spinosaurus is quadrupedal rather than bipedal, although many paleontologists don't agree with this stance. In 2018, Donald Henderson still believes that Spinosaurus is still a bipedal dinosaur.
  • In 2020, the tail of Spinosaurus has been found and reconstructed making it more paddle shaped and makes it the first dinosaur that lives in water.
